This is a oral exam with questions and answers taken from the study manual. Qualified Glider Pilot Licence'. This is a written exam and when passed indicates that you have completed basic glider training it includes flying exercises, half hour solo duration, rigging and de-rigging, daily inspection for safety, theory and examination on aviation rules, navigation, principles of flight, meteorology, and human factors. After completing a landout you will be able to get a passenger rating allowing you to take family and friends.
Here is a sample flight in an ASK 21 glider the same as our new glider, Golf Tango Golf. This video courtesy of Beverley Soaring Center in Western Australia. Note the low tow position!
The Club can now offer a course of flight instruction to get pilots solo in a week. This involves theory and classroom study in the mornings and flying every afternoon.
Please talk to Thomas Anderson , our Club Manager, if you know of any prospective pilots who may wish to take this option rather than spreading their training out over many weeks. For many it’s a very efficient way of learning and gets student pilots into the more advanced and often more exciting aspects of gliding, very quickly.
