  • Yes. Gliders have normal aircraft controls. They are easier to fly than most aircraft and can safely fly at lower speeds. Gliders are regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of New Zealand.

  • The cost for an “Instructional Trial Flight” is $250.00 including a short-term 3-month membership to the Taupo Gliding Club and a further five flights at club rates.

    The cost for "One Day Introduction" is $415.00. This includes a short-term 3-month membership to the Taupo Gliding Club and a further four flights at club rates.

    Training up to Solo Pilot is $4000 to $5000 which covers tow fees and glider cost.

  • You could achieve solo over a period of 4 weeks, with study and exams in the mornings and flying in the afternoons. The average student gets to solo in approx. 10 to 15 hours within 45 to 55 flights.
